Hints or tips to finding a job in the township or school system?
October 31st, 2008 | by admin |vibrant asked:
I haven’t worked outside the home for the last 3 years and I really need and want a quiet but busy type of office job. How do I explain the last 3 years(took care of my family and then found out I had cancer and dealt with it)
I could see me working a township job, something in the school system offices or retirement community or community education, etc.
Any thoughts or ideas for me? Thank you

The main thing when you are seeking employment is to always be honest. Sooner or later it will come back to bite you if you aren’t. Certainly a new employer should understand your circumstances. Highlight all of your good qualities and what positive things you can do for the company. In today’s world, companies are looking for the best employee for their company. So, that is the focus. In our county, we have an Educational Service Center where temps and other employees are hired. Do you have anything like that in your area. Also, volunteering at an organization such as a retirement community can open the door to employment and you can see what the company is like before you make your decision

Many times, jobs like that are Civil Service. I don’t know where you live, but find the webpage for the local Civil Service office. You can take tests for various positions (Clerk Typist I, Senior Stenographer, etc.) and then you get on a list. You would get “canvass” letters for jobs with schools, public libraries, town offices, etc.
Some jobs, like teacher aide or monitor, are not usually Civil Service and you could check with the local school district about that.
