Do the long term unemployed have weak job hunting skills?
March 18th, 2009 | by admin |questioner asked:
I have been reading alot recently about the large number of people who have been unemployed for years, even though they have put on an active job search. I wonder what is going on here. Some would say that these are good people with strong skills but who are just having a hard time in a very difficult economy. Others would say that these people likely have poor skills, lack of interpersonal abilites and a poorly developed resume and inadaquate ability to market themselves.

Why have most long term unemployed been jobless for so months or years?

I can give you several reasons.
Many companies will not hire anyone older than the manager who may be in his 20’s or 30’s. This is discrimination but it occurs all the time. Many older workers( over 40) have a very difficult time, even with an excellent resume and job skills.
Some companies must advertise due to policy but already have candidates chosen.
Now it is the economy. So many thousands of applications for one job. No company can read this many. It’s a shame but a reality right now.
Bringing jobs back to America would solve the problem but that is just too easy.

Because these days there are so many applicants and only one person for that position. Also, these days the employers are not welcome to the fact that they are discriminating to any type of applicant who applied for that position. For example, let’s say it is a certain department full of women already working there and they post that ad on Craigslist. A man who is a job seeker applied for the position and the supervisor of the department decided to interview this man. After he finished, the supervisor’s manager decided not to hire this man because they somehow don’t think that this man is qualified for the right “fit” for the position anyway. He did his research and aced the interview. The only thing wrong with him is that he is a male and they wanted a woman to fill that position. See how it is discrimination against race, gender, age or whatever.Companies today are not equal opportunity employers anymore.
