Has anyone relocated without finding a job first? How long did that take and what did you do?

Finding a job
Big Leap asked:

I am going to move but I don’t have a job lined up yet. Also don’t know anyone in the city I plan to move to. I know it’s easier to find a job if you’re local rather than out of state so that’s why I’m taking the plunge but I’m wondering how successful I will be at that? Who’s done it? Did you find a job? How long did it take? Any helpful hints or advice? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i did, i ended up stealing food for a month because we had no money. don’t suggest it unless you have alot of savings.

Go online to the city you are moving to and check out temp agencies. They can find you a job to work at until you find a permanent one.

Yes, but I would not recommend it unless you have a lot of money saved up. It took me about three weeks to find a job but that has been about five years ago and jobs were a lot easier to find back then. The economy is so bad right now it may take a while to find a job depending on the area you are moving to. Good luck!!

I’m currently in this situation, I was awarded a large bonus at my previous company, so money is not an issue, but I would not move unless you have a rock solid 6 months money reserve set aside. I just moved from buffalo to charlotte two months ago and it has been difficult trying to find a place of employment. I’ve met some people here (hardly anyone is originally from charlotte) and they all tell me the same thing, it took them 6-8 months to find a job. I would contact a job recruiter or placement agency to see what they say, but we were told to stop by once we were settled. The only regret I have about my move is not having a job lined up, so if you don’t have one, don’t move until you either have a job lined up or have plenty of money
