When job hunting should I mention that I will be losing my job?

job hunting

I’m currently job hunting, but I don’t know if it is proper to give out the information that I’m losing my current job due to downsizing. I would like too, in order to play the sympathy card, but don’t know if the hiring manager/recruiter would look unfavorably upon it.

Personally I would mention it but I would act positive instead of coming across as desperate. Mention that it has given you a good incentive to re-evaluate what you want in your next job (and the job you’re appling for has all the attributes you’re looking for!). Mention that it’s made you more focussed and more determined to do well in your new role. Remember - stay positive and good luck! Let us know how it goes.
