Will it make a difference in finding a job if I get my vet tech certification online or at a college?

Finding a job
babyblue6489 asked:

I’m weighing my options. I’ve found an online program to become a veterinary technician but there is also a program at a college for veterinary medical technologies. Will it make a difference in finding a job? Veterinarians or vet techs preferred.

As long as your on-line program is AVMA accredited you should be fine. The on-line programs that are AVMA accredited require you to have a “mentor”. A vet clinic that you can go to and learn the hands on skills. That is a very important part of tech school and if your on-line program doesn’t provide for that, then yes you’ll have a harder time finding a job.
As long as you graduate from an AVMA accredited school and have passed your boards you should be ok finding a job. But, if you have little experience in the field already then the on-site school is probably a better choice if distance/time isn’t an issue. But, if you’ve been a veterinary assistant or kennel worker and have a working knowledge of many procedures and conditions then you’d probably be fine doing the on-line program.
Go to the AVMA website to find out if the school you found on-line is accredited or not.
