Would getting a job somewhere help me overcome being shy?
December 30th, 2008 | by admin |Z0ro asked:
I am told I tend to talk quite quietly, I am quite shy and sometimes shake and get nervous in the company of certain age groups or walking past certain age groups, will getting a job help me overcome this with life experience?

I want/need to be able to talk to all walks of life without being nervous and talking quietly. Please advise!

I think that this would work ONLY if you HAD TO HAVE A JOB to SURVIVE! Otherwise, you’d quit and not force yourself to stand up and believe in yourself!! I was an only child and somehow grew up thinking/believing that I had to please EVERYONE around me!! I never knew who I was–as I “morphed” into who ever I was with! I don’t know if this applies to you, but I FINALLY was totally dependent upon my job; I was good at it; and I learned to speak what I KNEW was true!! It is such a RELIEF to be oneself!!!! I DO hope that you find this wonderful person–yourself!!! Good Luck! (PS One thing that really helped me was to find a good therapist–a Social Worker w/clinical training who helped me realize that I had grown up in fear of displeasing my mother….and that to survive, I HAD to learn to be HONEST with my own NEEDS!! Good Luck–It’s HELL to have to please the world!!!
